By car
Plan for 4 hours journey time from Manchester, 2 hours from
Carlisle.
From the north – follow the A77 to the junction with the A70; turn
RIGHT into Ayr.
From the south – follow the A74/M74 (direction Glasgow) until
Gretna; then the A75 to Dumfries; the A76 to Cumnock and the A70
into Ayr.
Stay on Holmston Road (A70) all the way into Ayr - the River Ayr
is on the right.
At a large double roundabout (opposite the station) turn LEFT and
then immediately RIGHT.
The road crosses the railway line into Ayr town centre.
At the ESSO PETROL STATION, follow the one way system round to the
LEFT; go down the hill, turn RIGHT at the traffic lights.
At the next traffic lights, turn LEFT into MILLER ROAD.
At the next traffic lights, turn RIGHT onto RACECOURSE ROAD.
Go straight on through 1 set of traffic lights and 1 pedestrian
crossing.
Enter roundabout and take first exit onto FORT STREET.
Enter next roundabout and take 2nd exit onto HARBOUR STREET.
Turn LEFT over the bridge.
Take first LEFT immediately after the bridge onto NORTH HARBOUR
STREET.
Turn first right and immediately 1st RIGHT into the car park:
- the car space for Riverside Cottage is first on the right; the
entry door (yale key) is on your right hand side and once in the
building the mortice key opens the cottage door on the right
- the car space for Harbourview Apartment is fourth on the right and
the entry door (yale key) is directly in front of you; the apartment
is first floor on the right
By train
Ayr is on a main line from Glasgow (Central Station). Trains run
every 30 minutes (60 minutes on Sunday) and the journey takes about
45 minutes. Then a 5 minute taxi drive or a 15 minute walk: turn
right out of the station onto Smith Street, turn left into Kyle
Street which joins High Street and follow it down to the end; then
turn right and cross the River Ayr; turn left immediately after the
bridge onto North Harbour Street; turn 1st right and immediately
first right into the car park to face the apartment block.
By bus
Buses from Glasgow leave from the Buchanan Street bus station.
Express buses go to the bus station in Ayr (Fullarton Street);
non-express buses will stop nearer the apartments at King Street
(opposite the Police Station) – from there walk left to the traffic
lights, turn left, turn first right just before the bridge onto
North Harbour Street; turn first right and immediately first right
into the car par park to face the apartment block.
By air
From Prestwick Airport to the apartments is about 4 miles.
By car: turn left on leaving the airport and travel straight through
the towns of Prestwick and Ayr. Approaching Ayr town centre, when
you see Lidl and Brantano shops on the right, prepare to turn right
at the large roundabout with the Police Station on the corner - turn
right. At traffic lights (opposite MFI) turn right. Turn first left
into Crown Street. Turn first left into Back Peebles Street and
follow the gentle bend to the right – the properties are at the end
of this road on the left hand side and the car park is on the left
just before the building.
By train: from the station at Prestwick airport to Ayr station is
a 5 minute journey. Trains run every 30 minutes (60 minutes on
Sundays). Then follow directions above.
From Glasgow Airport (about 40 miles)
By car: leave the airport on the M8 following the signs to Glasgow
City Centre and Kilmarnock. Next leave the M8 at Junction 24 and
follow the signs to Kilmarnock. After a short but slow journey
through built up areas, you should join the M77 to Kilmarnock and
Ayr. Then follow directions above for car travel.
By train: from the airport, get to Paisley station either by
taking the shuttle bus (£1.50, but can be refunded at the train
station if you ask the bus driver for a transfer ticket) or a taxi
(approximately £5). Trains from Paisley to Ayr (£5.50) run every 30
minutes (60 minutes on Sundays) and the journey takes about 40
minutes. From Ayr station follow directions above.
