By car
Plan for 4 hours journey time from Manchester, 2 hours from Carlisle
From the south - follow the A74/M74 (direction Glasgow) until
Gretna; then the A75 to Dumfries; the A76 to Cumnock and the A70 to
Ayr. At the junction of the A70 and A77, turn right onto the A77 and
follow the signs to Prestwick Airport.
From the north - follow the A77 from Glasgow and then signs to
Prestwick Airport.
Pass the airport and at the large roundabout turn right (direction
A79 to Ayr and Prestwick).
Take the second road on the left (Alexandra Avenue).
At the top, turn right into Caerlaverock Road.
Turn fifth left into Briarhill Road.
Turn first right into Briarhill Street.
Go straight ahead and follow the road round to the left to the
garages.
There are six cottages on your left - number 21 is the furthest away
on the right hand side.
From Ayr Town Centre and Tourist Information Centre - take the main
road north to Prestwick (A79); go through Prestwick Cross, take the
second road on the right (Alexandra Avenue) and follow the
instructions as above.
By train
The station at Prestwick Town (not Prestwick Airport) is on the main
line from Glasgow (Central Station) to Ayr. Trains run every 30
minutes (60 minutes on Sundays) and the journey takes about 40
minutes. Then a 5 minute taxi drive or a 10 minute walk: arriving
from Glasgow - leave the station on the same side as you arrive.
Walk up Station Road to the Cross.
At Prestwick Cross, cross the road, turn left for a short distance
and then turn right into Crofthead Road.
Walk up to the top of Crofthead Road, turn right onto Caerlaverock
Road.
After one block, turn left at the old school (now a community
centre) into St John Street.
At the top of St John Street, turn right into Briarhill Street and
follow the road round to the garages.
There are six cottages on the left hand side. 21 is the furthest
away on the right hand side.
By air
From Prestwick airport - 10 minutes taxi drive, train to Prestwick
Town station as above, or bus to Prestwick Cross and then 5 minute
walk.
From Glasgow Airport (about 40 miles)
By car: leave the Airport on
the M8 following the signs to Glasgow City Centre and Kilmarnock.
Next leave the M8 at Junction 24 and follow the signs to Kilmarnock.
After a short but slow journey through built up areas, you should
join the M77 to Kilmarnock and Ayr. Then follow the directions above
for car travel above.
By train: from the airport, get to Paisley station either by
taking the shuttle bus (£1.50, but can be refunded at the train
station if you ask the bus driver for a transfer ticket) or a taxi
(approximately £5). Trains from Paisley to Prestwick Town (not
Prestwick Airport) (£5.50) run every 30 minutes (60 minutes on
Sundays) and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Then a 5 minute
taxi drive or a 10 minute walk.
By bus
Frequent buses from Ayr Town Centre to Prestwick Cross, then a 5
minute walk as above.
